Learning New Language To Meditation, 5 Ways To Sharpen Your Brain

Mental functions related to the brain undergo a tremendous change along with age. The brain has a certain intellectual potential and it starts to deplete after a certain time. It is quite pertinent to train the brain to exceed its potential and stay sharp at all phases of life. Dr Rumana Yunus, a scientist associated with Henry Ford, has come up with some tips to bolster the brain’s strength. This space articulates the list of those 5 mind-boosting strategies.

1. Learn a foreign language- Language learning improves one’s thinking skills and memory. It is because the language centres in the brain are flexible and can develop your mind. It also strengthens the ability of your brain to focus.

2. Engage in mind games- One should also spend their time productively by engaging in number games or crossword puzzles. These games include Sudoku, Chess and Scrabble. Solving mathematical problems can also help greatly in boosting the mind’s problem-solving capabilities. This will also help you in coming up with many solutions for a problem.

3. Socialising- Maintaining a friend circle also boosts the creative instincts of the brain to a great extent. You should try to have a friend circle with a diverse set of friends from different backgrounds. This will help in enriching your life experiences. Processing different languages and backgrounds can challenge the brain to build new connections.

4. Good diet- A healthy diet is pertinent for the good functioning of the brain. Foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids, minerals, and vitamins can sharpen the brain. These foods are anti-inflammatory and do not allow inflammation in the brain cells. Green leafy vegetables, fresh fruits, almonds and fatty fish are some of the brain-strengthening foods.

5. Meditate- The brain needs an ample amount of time to relax and reflect. At this point, meditation comes to the rescue. Meditation helps to calm down the brain, which can help immensely in sharpening it. Research has also suggested that meditation helps in enhancing the memory as well. It is important to take 10-15 minutes out to concentrate on only breathing.
