Speaking about the Water Meditation, Akshar explains that water has long been understood in ancient sciences as more than a physical substance. “Modern discussions on water memory explore how water can retain structural impressions of substances and vibrations it encounters. The Himalayan knowledge systems recognised this principle thousands of years ago, that water absorbs, stores, and transmits information,” he states.

Even scientifically, the unique hydrogen bonding of water allows molecules to remain dynamically connected. “Nearly 70% of the human body is composed of water. This medium is involved in the functions of the blood, the lymphatic system, and endocrine secretions. Spiritually, this reflects an important truth: water responds to influence and carries impressions, just as the human system does,” he adds.

Why the Moon and Water Matter for Your Health

If you’ve ever wondered why you feel off during certain times of the month, the answer might be in your cells. Akshar highlights that during full moon and new moon days, the moon visibly impacts the oceans with its gravitational influence.

“If vast water bodies respond to the lunar pull, the subtle water within the human system also responds. When the water element is balanced, hormonal regulation, emotional stability, thyroid function, and conditions such as PCOS remain more stable. When imbalanced, one may experience fluid retention and emotional volatility,” Akshar says.

How to Practice Water Meditation

Akshar explains that water meditation is an ancient Himalayan Yoga training designed to build a connection with the water element through these specific steps:

“Whenever drinking or bathing, cultivate gratitude and awareness. Chant Om Varunaya Namaha, the vibration associated with the water principle,” suggests Akshar. He advises storing water in natural earthen containers like a kamandalu and drinking it sip by sip while seated.

Ardhajalmagna Dhyan (Half-Immersion)

In this practice, the practitioner sits in water up to the lower part of the sternum (breastbone). “Maintaining Siddhasana, Vajrasana, or Padmasana, using Siddha Mudra or Pranam Mudra while chanting helps deepen the capacity,” says the yoga expert.

Purnajalmagna Dhyan (Complete Immersion)

An advanced discipline where breath control and deep meditative absorption allow the practitioner to master the element entirely.

Beyond the physical benefits, the practice offers a mental reset. Akshar also shares that water meditation teaches that people can be like water and flow around all hurdles. “It not only brings calm when one gives in to its rhythm but also allows rediscovering a quiet inner strength and emotional clarity,” he says.
