Florida-based neuroscientist Robert WB Love took to his Instagram account to share three practices that can give your brain a power boost. These require slight tweaks to your day and very little time. Here’s what he recommended in his new post:

Morning movement

The neuroscientist called it the most important of all the habits: moving your body every morning. He said, “It could be as simple as walking.” How does it help? “Moving your body is a great way to get the day started, get your blood flowing and help wake your body up,” he added. It also helps you stay present and more aware, and is excellent for your overall health. He advised it to combine it with the next habit.

Getting outside in the sunshine

He highly recommended getting some morning light, showcasing the scenic view of nature from where he was staying in Japan. “It is such a great thing for your brain and helps set your circadian rhythm for the day and it’s very calming, relaxing, and exposure to nature is absolutely fantastic for your brain,” he explained.

Morning meditation

Nothing like meditation to start your day. The power of breathing exercises is often underestimated but plays an important role in helping your brain get ready for the day. “So find as little as five minutes in the morning for meditation, gratitude, and breath work. You can do it with coffee, matcha, or anything you like. This makes a tremendous benefit for your brain,” he concluded.
