Here’s a list of precautions that women must keep in mind while travelling.
Summer Travel Plans
However, while everything is ticked off the list and we are prepared to go, women must take extra care during travel. More so, compared to their male counterpart, it may be due to their need for privacy, modesty, physical attributes and cultural expectations.
General Care
Dr Vaishali Joshi, a senior Obstetrician & Gynaecologist at Kokilaben Ambani Hospital, Mumbai, with over 25 years of experience, suggests a few but significant additions to the list of precautions that women must keep in mind while travelling:
Intimate Hygiene
The need to use un-clean, dirty public toilets can make you vulnerable to urine infections. Drinking fluids and avoiding holding urine for a very long time is essential. Use anti-bacterial baby wipes to clean toilet seats or carry disposable toilet seat covers to prevent infections.
Care During Menstruation
Carrying menstrual pads, tampons, cups, waste disposal, or zip-lock bags is essential. In addition, have some painkillers for painful periods.
Sexual Care
It’s essential to continue your regular method of contraception during travel to prevent unplanned pregnancies. In addition, it’s necessary to have access to the barrier method or condom to prevent sexually transmitted infections, particularly with a new partner. Finally, always pass urine immediately after intercourse to avoid urine diseases.
Mouth And General Body Hygiene
Using anti-bacterial mouthwash and regular brushing can avoid bad breaths. In addition, body deodorants and anti-per spirants prevent bad body odours.
Double Facial Masking
We aren’t a covid free world yet. While we hear of the rising cases, wearing a double cloth or a combination of N-95 or surgical masks and cloth masks is essential to protect from COVID-19 infections while travelling.
Skin Hygiene
Using the correct SPF sunscreen will prevent sunburn.
