6 Meditation Tips For Beginners To Follow

Starting a meditation journey can feel challenging at first, but with a few simple tips, beginners can easily ease into the practice and make it a part of their daily routine.

Start Early: Set yourself up for meditation in the early morning. In the quiet early morning moments, few distractions are found, so this is the perfect time to just sit in a serene atmosphere. Meditate first thing in the morning to end on a note of calmness and clarity.

Set a Time and a Place: If mornings are not really your thing, go for a time and place that feels true to you. Meditating at the same time and location daily builds a routine that helps signal to your mind that it is time to relax and focus on something.

Forget About Being Cross-Legged: The common perception is you must be sitting cross-legged for meditation. Should that position feel uncomfortable, pick one that feels good for your body, sitting on a chair, dropping on a sofa, or even lying down. Always remember that comfort means staying present.

Sit Comfortably with a Balanced Position: The best meditation posture is when your body feels supported yet relaxed. Sitting position should be with feet flat on the floor, aligned back-orientated naturally, and hands resting comfortably on the knees or in the lap. Cushions may be used to help maintain relaxation without putting strain on the body or causing slouching.

Breathe Naturally: Gently pay attention to your breath but avoid controlling it. Just pay attention to its rhythm and how it moves through your body. Your breath can be a natural anchor to return your attention whenever your mind begins to wander.

Allow Discomfort: Irregular feelings often occur during meditation, including restlessness and irritation. Instead of fighting with them, acknowledge their presence.
