With winter months staring at us, it is imperative that we take some actions to prevent cold and cough, flu, bronchitis, pneumonia, sinus infections, seasonal affective disorder (SAD), and other seasonal health problems. There are vaccines for flu, pneumonia, and other diseases. Consult your doctor or healthcare provider for recommended vaccinations, and get jabbed at least 2 weeks before winter arrives to allow immunity to build.
Boost Your Immunity
It is crucial to eat nutrient-rich foods like whole grains, fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and healthy fats. Stay hydrated and limit sugary drinks. Try to exercise every day for at least 30 minutes and get 7-9 hours of sound sleep to help your immune system recover.
Stress Management
Try to engage in stress-reducing activities like yoga, meditation, reading, or deep breathing exercises. Set realistic goals every day and prioritise your tasks. Make sure to connect with loved ones to reduce stress.
Practise Good Hygiene
Wash your hands frequently and thoroughly using soap and water, especially after using the bathroom, before eating, and after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing. Use a hand sanitiser often, and avoid touching your face, especially the eyes, nose, and mouth. Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
Clean Your House
Make sure that you clean and disinfect your house. Regularly clean high-touch areas like doorknobs, light switches, and countertops. Open the windows for fresh air and use air purifiers. Make sure that you have a winter kit ready with medications, thermometers, and warm blankets.
Stay Active And Warm
Dress warmly and appropriately by wearing layers to maintain body heat. Engage in indoor exercises or outdoor activities like walking. Maintain a healthy weight as excess weight can increase the risk of winter illnesses.
